BLAME daughter Schlofmitz earned her first stakes victory on Wednesday night with a win in the Curtis Sampson Oaks at Canterbury Park.
Racing a mile on the turf, Schlofmitz was more than six lengths off the pace for much of the race. The spread out field saw the filly race in the middle of the pack until they entered the second half of the turn when she made a sweeping move.
Nearly in first as they turned into the stretch, she entered a sustained due before starting to pull away in the final sixteenth. It looked as though Schlofmitz was free to win as she pleased but a late run from another runner saw her lead dwindle to a determined head in the end.
Bred by Stone Farm, Schlofmitz has won half of her six starts and scored her first stakes victory in this race. The filly is trained by Mike Maker for a group that includes Michael Dubb, Madaket Stables, and Michael Caruso.
Schlofmitz is one of six winners from six named foals out of the Grade 3-placed Summer Savory. The family also includes Grade 1 winner Dixie Brass, and multiple graded stakes winners Owlsey and Odyle.
Schlofmitz gives BLAME his third stakes winner and ninth stakes performer of 2022.
