RUNHAPPY’S Kinetic Sky added another win to his record with an easy victory at Churchill Downs on Saturday.
Racing over 1 1/16 miles on the Churchill dirt, Kinetic Sky was closest to the leaders as they raced around the oval with those two dueling for the lead. As they entered the far turn, Kinetic Sky easily moved up to challenge for the lead with Florent Geroux barely moving on the colt. It didn’t take long until the frontrunners yielded and he was in command as they entered the stretch.
Only one horse had any chance of running down Kinetic Sky close to home but that one fell 1 ¼ lengths short with the third place runner 6 ½ lengths behind Kinetic Sky in the end.
Trained by Brad Cox for Robert LaPenta, Kinetic Sky was a $180,000 weaning purchase before being sold to Steve Young as agent for $450,000 at the 2019 Fasig-Tipton New York Saratoga Yearling Sale from Dromoland Farm.
Finishing in the top three in all six of his starts, the colt is out of the multiple stakes placed Sky America, who is a full sister to stakes winner and Grade 1-placed Third Dawn. Sky America’s sisters also produced stakes placed Emmy’s Candy and Jeune Coureur with their dam a half-sister to Group 2 winner Estrela Brynhild.
RUNHAPPY is a top six second crop sire by 2021 winners with his two 2021 stakes winners and five stakes performers fourth best among all second crop sires this year.
