Mawu Impressive Juvenile Winner for BLAME

The Bob Baffert-trained BLAME filly Mawu made a good first impression on Sunday when she easily won a Santa Anita Maiden Special Weight going six furlongs.

The filly wasn’t the first out of the gate but quickly entered a duel for the lead after that. Mawu inched ahead as they blazed around the turn and opened a half-length on her longtime rival until they reached the final furlong.

With Antonio Fresu urging her on, Mawu built her lead to three quarters of a length at the line to become another 2-year-old winner for BLAME this year.

Mawu was a $500,000 purchase by racing owner Baoma Corp from the Gainesway consignment at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Selected Yearlings sale.

The filly is out of two-time winning Flatter daughter Soul Singer, who is a half-sister to Grade 3 winner Shkspeare Shaliyah and the stakes placed duo of Master Tricky and Zip Trick. Soul Singer’s first four dams all produced at least one stakes winner.

BLAME’s juveniles this year include the multiple stakes winning Crazy Frazy.
