It was a huge week at the OBS Spring Sale of Two-Year-Olds for Claiborne stallions with buyers eager to take home juveniles from both proven and young Claiborne sires.
BLAME’s $700,000 colt sold in the third session bought by West Bloodstock as agent for Repole Stable was the second most expensive colt of that session and seventh of the sale.
Offered by Coastal Equine, he is a half-brother to champion Derek Adrian and Grade 3 winner and Grade 1-placed Jalen Journey among their dam’s four winners from five to race.
Named I’lltaketheblame, the colt’s family also includes Grade 2 winner Yara and multiple stakes winner Moon Swag. Bred in Florida by Dennis Edward Foster, the colt was originally a $70,000 OBS October yearling purchase last year.
A $550,000 filly by the stallion was also the seventh most expensive among her gender at the sale and second most expensive filly of the third session when purchased by C R K Stable. Consigned by Hidden Brook, the filly out of Romantic Frolic is a half-sister to the stakes placed duo of Bode’s Maker and Road to Romance.
Romantic Frolic herself is a half-sister to Grade 2 winner Super Frolic and stakes winner Stormy Frolic. That mare produced stakes winner Frolic’s Revenge, who is the dam of BLAME’s stakes winning American Frolic and two other stakes performers.
DEMARCHELIER (GB) only had four on offer at OBS last week but buyers were eager to get their hands on his first crop, led by Gainesway Farm buying a $230,000 filly.
Offered by Niall Brennan, who has already vocalized his belief in DEMARCHELIER’s (GB) first crop, the filly breezed a :9.4 furlong to catch the attention of everyone on the sales ground.
Bred by Leverett Miller, she is out of the winning Arch mare Treasured. That mare is a full sister to stakes winner Desert Phantom and stakes placed Mercilla. This is also the family of Grade 1 inners Blue Prize, Blue Stripe, and Knock. In all, the filly’s page includes 13 stakes winners and 19 stakes performers under her first three dams.
Treasured also had a DEMARCHELIER (GB) colt last year.
Niall Brennan Stables sold a Stephanie Baltzan-bred DEMARCHELIER (GB) colt for $90,000 on Thursday to Joseph Migliore. Bred in New York, the colt is a half-brother to six winners from seven to race with the group including the nine-time winning Grudge.
His dam Pilamaya is a full sister to stakes winning Grand Refer and half-sister to stakes winners Love That Jazz and Boowoogeemalia with the group out of the stakes placed Val’s Jazz. The extended family also includes Grade 2 winners Terra Incognita, Nightmare Affair, and Martillo.
DEMARCHELIER’s (GB) juvenile average this year sits at $85,500 – over 17 times his stud fee.
A filly from the first crop by CATHOLIC BOY sold for $170,000 to Whitehorse Stables and Madaket Stables from the Niall Brennan Stables consignment.
Bred in Florida by Nature Coast Thoroughbreds, her dam Valley Oak is a full sister to stakes winner Little Rocket and stakes winners Lovely Lil and Sweet Sweet. Valley Oak’s Grade 2 winning dam has produced nine winners from 10 to race with three of her daughters producing stakes winners. Among the stakes performers are multiple stakes winner and Grade 3 placed Lovely Ride and Grade 1 placed American Xperiment.
A successful season on the track has carried over to the sales ring for RUNHAPPY at OBS.
His juveniles were led by a $130,000 colt purchased by Doyle Williams from the Scanlon Training and Sales consignment. Breezing in :10.0, the colt is a half-brother to multiple stakes winners Wendell Fong and Ruffenuff.
They are out of the Forestry mare Augusta Queen, who herself is a half-sister to Grade 3 winner Miles Ahead and stakes inner La Grange in addition to stakes placed Magic d’Oro. La Grange is also the dam of stakes inner Lloyds Logic and stakes placed Whiskey Bound.
Joe Davis was the purchaser of a $125,000 filly from Envision Equine’s consignment.
Breezing in :10.0, the filly out of multiple stakes winning Miss Mary Pat was a $70,000 Keeneland September Yearling purchase from co-breeder Bedouin Bloodstock’s consignment. That operation bred the filly with Timber Town Stables.
The filly is a half-sister to stakes winner Shore Runner and the stakes performing trio of Save Rock and Roll, Captain Webb, and Scatoosh. The extended family also includes Grade 2 winner Mrs McDougal with all three mares named on the page producing stakes performers and two earning black type as well.
