BLAME was a popular sire at this week’s OBS March 2-Year-Olds In Training Sale with his five sold led by a $450,000 colt.
Purchased by Mike Maker from the Top Line Sales consignment, the Irish-bred colt is out of the Grade 2 winning Daring Dancer whose only other foal to race is placed. Daring Dancer is a half-sister to stakes winner Hamp and out of a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Crowded House.
In all, the colt’s first three dams are either stakes winners or producers with nine stakes winners named on the page including Grade 1 winners Ticker Tape, Brando, and Reckless Abandon.
BLAME was also the sire of a $300,000 colt bought by John P Fort from Global Thoroughbreds on the first day of selling.
Out of the Empire Maker mare Snooki, the colt is a half-brother to Grade 3 winner Valdermoro and four other winners from five to race out of his dam. Snooki is also a half-sister to stakes winner Coup de Coeur, who produced Grade 2 placed Animosity.
Seeing Grade 1 winner Lovlier Linda named as his third dam, the colt also hails from the family of Grade 2 winner and successful sire Old Trieste.
Bill and Corine Heiligbrodt and Jackpot Farm snapped up a $310,000 LEA colt from the Cruizin’ Thoroughbreds consignment on Monday after the colt breezed in :10.0 last week.
The colt is out of the winning Elusive Quality mare Unabashed, the dam of two winners from four to race led by five-time winner C P Quality. Unabashed is out of the Grade 3 winner and Grade 2 placed Golden Temper, who herself is a granddaughter of Ivy. Ivy produced Grade 1 winner Ivyanna, whose runners included Grade 1 placed Snowflake.
Three of the colt’s four dams named on the page are either stakes performers or stakes producers.
MASTERY’s five offered at OBS March were led by the Willis Horton Racing-purchased colt out of You Asked, who brought $250,000.
A :10.1 breezer, his dam is a multiple graded stakes performer and herself produced Grade 3 winner Do Share and stakes performers Dalton and Andyoushallreceive. In all, You Asked has seven winners from seven to race and herself was a five-time winner.
This colt’s third dam is the stakes winner Steel Maiden, who also produced Grade 2 winner Mesabi Maiden. That mare was the granddam of multiple Grade 1 winner Orb.
MASTERY is having an excellent year on the track with his 30 winners in 2023 the second best of all third crop sires.
