WAR FRONT’s Liguria Win Buena Vista Stakes (G2)

It was an impressive last-to-first performance for WAR FRONT’s Liguria in Saturday’s Buena Vista Stakes (G2) to earn her third career stakes victory.

Third last out in the Megahertz Stakes (G3), the 5-year-old was happy to sit back far off the runaway leader, but closer to the rest of the field. The mare had to maneuver to find a hole to get closer to the front but once she did, she showed the turn of foot that has won her three stakes.

Liguria nearly ran out of time, but was able to best the runner up by a head in a three-way photo finish for the victory.

Trained by Michael McCarthy for Alpha Delta Stables, Liguria has won four of her 10 starts with two other top three finishes for $374,200 in earnings.

“She is a quality filly. Her resume spoke volumes when she came here. I’m just glad we were able to get her in form and hopefully keep her there for a while,” said McCarthy.

A full sister to WAR FRONT’s multiple Grade 1 winner Avenge and Group 3-placed Pistoletto, Liguria is also a half-sister to stakes winner Lira and Grade 3-placed Tigerish. Lira produced the stakes winning Lia Marina as well.

Liguria comes from a strong family with each of her first four dams producing either stakes winners or the dams of stakes winners.

WAR FRONT sired two graded stakes winners on Saturday with Fort Washington wining the Canadian Turf Stakes (G3).
