WAR FRONT juvenile Bullet went two-for-two in stakes on Saturday with a victory in the My Dear Stakes at Woodbine.
The 5 ½ furlong affair on the synthetic saw Bullet break among the best horses before settling behind a group battling for the lead. Racing a few paths wide gave Bullet plenty of space to make a move around the turn right as the leader shook loose from the rest of the field.
Bullet was challenging by the time they hit the stretch and it was clear Patrick Husbands had the best horse under him. Just a few taps were needed to keep her focused as she pulled away to win by an easy 4 ¼ lengths as a heavy favorite.
Making both her career starts at the stakes level, the D.J Stable-owned filly is trained by Mark Casse.
“She’s one of them, trust me she’s one of them,” said Husbands, when asked where Bullet ranks on the list of the best two-year-old fillies he’s ridden. “You could do anything with this filly. You can go to the lead, you can do anything. She’s all class – you can do anything with her.”
She was a $425,000 purchase at last year’s Keeneland September Yearling Sale by her racing owner from breeder Gainesway.
A granddaughter of champion Surfside, Bullet is out of a half-sister to Grade 3 winner Irish Surf and the stakes placed Shark. Surfside is also the granddam of Group 1 winner Zillzaal and Grade 3 winner High Celebrity.
Bullet’s dam foaled a full sister to the filly last year.
This is the third stakes winner since June 1 for WAR FRONT, who also saw one of his 3-year-olds and one of his older horses also win stakes over the past month and a half.
