Making her first start since being purchased by Michael Tabor, Derrick Smith and John Magnier for $2.35 million out of Fasig-Tipton’s November Sale, TARIS nearly went wire-to-wire, but finished runner-up beaten only 1/2 length, in Santa Anita’s Grade 1 La Brea S. Making her Grade 1 stakes debut, the 3-year-old filly by FLATTER rushed up to take the lead after breaking a bit slowly from the inside post in this seven-furlong contest. TARIS set a torrid pace of :21 4/5 for the first quarter mile and :43 4/5 for the half mile. She was 3 1/2 lengths in front in midstretch but the blistering pace took its toll and she was caught in final 1/16th. In her last start TARIS won Keeneland’s Lexus Raven Run S.-G2 by nine lengths earning a 110 Beyer, the highest for any filly or mare in the country this year. She also won Laurel’s Wide Country S. in her first start of the year and was a “TDN Rising Star” after her 11 3/4-length debut win in December at Aqueduct in her only start at 2. Bred by Claiborne Farm and Adele Dilschneider out of the Theatrical (Ire) mare, Comedy, TARIS was a $90,000 purchase out of the 2012 Keeneland September Yearling Sale. She is now trained by Simon Callaghan who purchased her in November for an existing client.
