Second Stakes Victory In a Row for FIRST SAMURAI’s Not On Herb

FIRST SAMURAI saw son Not On Herb capture his second career stakes win last month and he was back again on Saturday with a victory in the Louisiana Legends Sprint Stakes.

The David Terre trainee never strayed far from the leader in the 5 ½ furlong race when forwardly placed by jockey Juan Vargas. Sitting just over a length off the pacemaker in the beginning, Not On Herb loomed large as the field exited the turn to make it clear he was a serious threat.

The gelding took over the lead then sprinted away in the final furlong to win by 2 ¾ lengths as the race favorite in this start.

Bred by Summergrove Farm and Terry Gabriel and owned by Crusaders Stable, this was the sixth win in 12 starts for Not On Herb, who has $225, 470 in earnings.

Not On Herb is the lone stakes winner for Toast Of Ashley, but is one of four winners from five to race out of the mare.

Stakes performers run in the family with his dam a half-sister to the stakes placed Moka Jumble. This is also the family of dual Grade 1 winner Pioneerof the Nile and Grade 2 winner Powis Castle.

An evergreen stallion who proves to throw consistent runners every year, he is the sire of 499 winners with 76 horses placing in blacktype races.
