It was a Saturday maiden double for dual surface Grade 1 winner and freshman sire CATHOLIC BOY when the stallion registered winners in Canada and Florida.
Holiday In Jail kicked the double off while making her third start going 1 1/16 miles on Woodbine’s synthetic surface.
Trained by Robert Tiller for 3 Sons Racing Stable, Holiday In Jail settled into second a few lengths off the pacesetter while racing a few lengths off the rail. She stayed in that position until they hit the far turn and she made her first bid for the lead. The pacesetter was determined to spoil her winning plans and the pair dueled nearly all the way to the wire.
Holiday In Jail was able to wear down her rival near the line and had half a length on her at the end with the rest of the field over five lengths behind.
Holiday In Jail has finished in the top two in two of three starts with her second coming going seven furlongs on the synthetic surface.
Making her career debut at Tampa Bay, the Chad Brown-trained Sacred Image debuted going one mile on the turf.
The filly showed a little greenness when slow from the gate but with Samy Camacho aboard she quickly found her stride and moved to the rail before settling a few paths wider down the backstretch. Racing just a few lengths off the leader, she started her bid for the win at the quarter pole and steadily made up ground from there.
Still two lengths behind when they reached the final furlong, Sacred Image closed that ground and had an extra half-length by the time they hit the line.
A homebred for Peter Brant’s White Birch Farm, Sacred Image is one of two winners from three to race out of Painter’s Muse, who is out of Grade 2 winner Peinture Rare. Peinture Rare is the dam of WAR FRONT’s Grade 3-placed Siege of Boston and the granddam of stakes winner Perseverants. Peinture Rare is a half-sister to European Horse of the Year Peintre Celebre, Grade 3 winner Pointilliste, and stakes winner Peinture Rose.
Painter’s Muse had a WAR FRONT filly this year.
Bred by Paul Braverman, Holiday In Jail is one of two winners from two to race out of Into Mischief’s In Jail. That mare is a half-sister to stakes winner and Grade 2-placed Moon Swag with the duo out of Grade 2 winner Yara.
CATHOLIC BOY’s 14 winners puts him eighth among all North American freshmen with all but one of the stallions above him having more runners than CATHOLIC BOY as well.
