It was a second stakes winner of the weekend for WAR FRONT when Safeen won the Pucker Up Stakes (G3) at Ellis Park.
Racing 1 1/8 miles on the Ellis turf, Safeen was close behind the pace as two dueled for the lead in front of her. She moved closer as they entered the turn to make her own challenge but another runner spurting away gave her more work to do.
She was close to the lead coming into the final furlong and by the final sixteenth was in front. In the end, Safeen registered her second stakes win in her last three starts by half a length.
Trained by Eddie Kenneally, Safeen races for Fergus Galvin and Rebecca Hillen.
The Shadwell Farm-bred is one of four winners from five to race out of the Dynaformer mare Tafaneen.
That one is a daughter of Grade 3 winner Cozzy Corner, who herself is a half-sister to multiple Grade 1 winner Riskaverse. This is also the family of WAR FRONT’s Grade 1 winner Fog of War and stakes winners Navel Intelligence and Invader with Horse of the Year Havre de Grace and multiple Grade 1 winner Tonalist under her fourth dam.
This was one of two stakes performers on the card for WAR FRONT alongside Preview Turf Cup third Siege of Boston
