RUNHAPPY carried his February success into March on Thursday when Joyful Cadence romped home by 8 ¾ lengths in an Oaklawn Maiden Special Weight.
Making her second career start, the 3-year-old filly broke on top and raced in second for a few furlongs of the six furlong race before her speed carried her to the front. Proving to be much the best, Joyful Cadence continued to pull away with every stride before crossing the line 8 ¾ lengths in front of the second place finisher with everyone else seven lengths behind that filly.
The 19th winner for her sire overall, she is also the 11th winner for RUNHAPPY this year to lead all Second-Crop Sires by 2021 winners.
Trained by John Alexander Ortiz for WSS Racing, Joyful Cadence was a $235,000 yearling purchase by that owner after selling for $90,000 as a weanling.
Out of Arabian Song, she was bred in Kentucky by Scott and Debbie Pierce and is a half-sister to Grade 3 winner Country Grammar with Arabian Song producing four winners from five to race. That mare is a half-sister to Group 2-placed Bodes Galaxy and the dam of stakes-placed Reversethedecision.
This is also the family of Group 1 winners Etoile Montante, Starformer and the Grade 2-winning, Grade 1-placed Bonny South.
In the past month, RUNHAPPY has seen eight of his runners win, led by 11 ¾ length stakes winner Nicky The Vest.
