The leading first-crop sire by average with three or more yearlings sold at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Sale was Claiborne’s Runhappy, whose four offered yearlings sold for an average of $395,000. Runhappy bested such first-crop sires as Frosted and Upstart.
His highest-priced yearling brought the hammer down at $650,000 to Cromwell Bloodstock. Out of Always In My Heart (Hennessy), Hip 172 is a bay Kentucky-bred colt consigned by Denali Stud, Agent III. A black-type stakes winner, Always In My Heart has produced two winners thus far, and is from the family of multiple graded stakes winner Broken Vow.
Runhappy’s colt out of Sky America (Sky Mesa) was his second-highest seller, going for $450,000 to agent Steve Young. Consigned by Gerry Dilger for Dromoland Farm Inc., Hip 116 is a strapping bay colt out of a sister to stakes winner Third Dawn.
Hip 154, a colt by Well, sold for $250,000 to agent Arnaud Delacour, and hip 57, by Majestic Presence, sold for $230,000 to DJ Stable LLC. Well (Well Decorated) is the dam of multiple graded stakes winner Kobe’s Back, as well as 5 other winners. Majestic Presence (Majestic Warrior) is a black-type placed mare and is from the family of G2 Summertime Oaks winner My Majestic Rose.
Runhappy stands at Claiborne Farm for $25,000.
