RUNHAPPY had a two-stakes winner day on Saturday when 2-year-old Run To Daylight won his second consecutive stakes in the West Virginia Vincent Moscarelli Memorial Breeders’ Classic Stakes.
The Jeff Runco-trained gelding hung out in the back of the field early in the 6 ½ furlong race over five lengths off the leader. Once he was well in stride, Run To Daylight showed why he was the race favorite when gobbling up ground to confront the pacesetter in the far turn. Run To Daylight had the lead at the top of the stretch and pulled away for a 2 ¼ length win with the third place runner well back over 12 lengths behind the winner.
The victory kept the gelding undefeated in three starts.
Bred by James Franklin Miller in West Virginia, Run To Daylight is conditioned by Jeff Runco for David Raim.
Run To Daylight is one of two stakes winners for Daylight’s Coming alongside Twirling Owen with Daylight’s Coming herself a half-sister to multiple stakes winner Harlan’s Destiny. The family also includes dual Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint (G1) winner Mizdirection and Grade 1 winner Hooh Why among others.
Run To Daylight’s victory came only hours after RUNHAPPY recorded his first graded stakes winner when Following Sea followed up two Grade 1 placings with a win against his elders in the Vosburgh Stakes (G2).
