NEWEST STAKES HORSE FOR FIRST SAMURAI

Making her stakes debut, NAKANO finished in the runner-up position in Calder’s five-furlong, off the turf Cool Air S. Unhurried early, the 4-year-old filly from the first crop of FIRST SAMURAI was four wide on the turn then put in a sustained rally down the lane for the place spot. This was just her second start of the year, her first being a 3 1/2-length off the turf allowance win at Calder in May after a nine-month lay-off. She has won or placed in six of nine starts, including a Maiden Special Weight win in her second start at the Fair Grounds. The sixth stakes horse this year for her sire was bred in Kentucky by Hubert Vester, is owned by Thoroughbred Futures Racing and trained by Martin Wolfson.
