Canada’s newest millionaire, Avie’s Flatter took his 2021 record to three-from five on Sunday when the FLATTER son won the Nearctic Stakes (G2) at Woodbine.
Sprinting over six furlongs on the turf, the 5-year-old horse was positioned in the middle of a three horse pack just behind the leaders. As they raced around the turn, Avie’s Flatter put those two away and focused on the leading targets for his run.
Chasing down the leaders early in the stretch, Avie’s Flatter became the newest Canadian millionaire as he passed the wire first by half a length to take his earnings to CAN$1,154,080 (US$932,937).
Canada’s 2018 Champion 2-Year-Old Colt, Avie’s Flatter is the winner of five stakes races with graded stakes coming in two different countries.
“This is a good horse,” praised Canadian Hall of Fame trainer Josie Carroll. “This horse, from the time he was two, every year, he shows up and gets it done. We have him back to sprinting now and he’s thriving on it. It’s wonderful. This horse is kind of a barn favourite so it’s very special for all of us when he wins.”
In all, the consistent stakes performer has finished top three in 12 of 18 starts with nine of those coming in stakes races. Fourth in the Summer Stakes (G1) as well, Avie’s Flatter has finished top four in all but three of his career starts.
He is one of three stakes performers from three to race out of Avie’s Empire, who also produced stakes winner Avie’s Mineshaft and Grade 3 winner Avie’s Mesa.
Avie’s Empire is a daughter of Grade 1 winner Fly For Avie, who has also been a profilic stakes producer with three stakes performers – one of those being the dam of FIRST SAMURARI’s Grade 3-placed Avie’s Samurai.
