It was a fourth winner for CATHOLIC BOY on Friday when Mission Ready won at Colonial Downs in his second career start.
Trained by Jeff Zook for Anthony Foglia, the juvenile spent the early part of the 1 1/16 mile turf race near the back of the pack after breaking a step slowly from the gate. Gavin Ashton let him spend the backstretch run moving closer to the leaders to be within easy striking distance coming into the turn.
Circling the field, he cut down the margin in front of him in the stretch to win by half a length.
Bred by Ron Stollich and BRS in Kentucky, Mission Ready is a three-quarter brother to the stakes winning Wining Envelope with the duo two of the four winners from four to race out of two-time winner Granby Girl.
Granby Girl is a half-sister to the dams of Grade 1 winners Zapata and Room Service with seven stakes winners listed under the gelding’s first two dams.
Catholic Boy’s four winners include the stakes placed Lady d’Oro with 18 of his 32 runners hitting the board at least once.
