LEA Gelding Registers Duncan F. Kenner Stakes Victory

LEA’s Kavod was back in the stakes spotlight on Saturday when the 6-year-old registered a win in the Duncan F. Kenner Stakes.

Making his 2025 debut going 5 ½ furlongs on the dirt after the races were rained off the turf at Fair Grounds, Kavod was happy to watch the two horses ahead of him wage a battle. He happily galloped in third under Frankie Dettori, moving closer in the turn before drawing close to them in the lane.

Dettori didn’t have to do much work on Kavod in the stretch to get him to romp away from the field. By the time he hit the line, he had a five-length victory to add to his record.

Trained by Joe Sharp for Baron Racing Stables, Kavod has won eight of his 39 starts with 11 other top three finishes for $908,753 in earnings.

The Steve Grant-bred LEA gelding is one of three stakes performers out of Weekend Connection alongside the stakes placed duo of Gran Brandy and Shrilanka. His fourth dam is the successful broodmare Lassie Connection, who is a sister to the dam of Lemon Drop Kid and three-quarter sister to A.P. Indy among others.

LEA has sired 12 stakes winners and over 10% stakes performers at stud with stakes winners in three different countries.
