Grade 2 winner GRAND ARCH turned in a grand performance to finish runner-up to two-time Horse of the Year Wise Dan in the $1 Million Shadwell Turf Mile S.-G1 on the opening weekend of Keeneland’s Fall Race Meet. The 5-year-old son of ARCH stalked the pace early no more than three lengths off the lead. He went five wide on the final turn, rallied through the stretch, had his nose in front inside the sixteenth pole but was caught by the late closer to finish just one length back of the win. Earlier in the year, GRAND ARCH won Woodbine’s one mile King Edward S.-G2 in a quick 1:32 2/5 which was less than a second off the course record set last year by Wise Dan. He has now won or placed in 16 of 17 career starts, six graded stakes, and has earnings of $658,130.
