FIRST SAMURAI’s Samurai Charm Adds Dark Mirage to Record For Fifth Straight Victory

FIRST SAMURAI’s Samurai Charmtook her record to five consecutive victories and added a first stakes win to her resume in the Dark Mirage Stakes at Los Alamitos.

Taking on a field that included multiple experience stakes horses in the one-mile dirt affair, Samurai Charm charged to the lead and galloped a length in front the field. Her rivals closed in on the horse racing immediately behind her but had work to do to catch the leader as they turned into the stretch and Samurai Charm started to extend.

Samurai Charm gave Velvet Slippers the chance to close when drifting out but near the wire, Samurai Charm’s focus was back on winning. The filly prevailed by a head with only the third placed horse within 11 lengths of the top two.

A homebred for Kirk and Judy Robison’s Downstream Racing, Samurai Charm’s only racing blemish came in her first start when she was third at Del Mar.

Samurai Charm is one of three stakes winners and four stakes horses overall for her dam Back Seat Charm.

That mare is the dam of seven winners from seven to race, including 16-time winner Back Seat Thrills. The family includes champion Caressing, who is the dam of FLATTER’s champion son West Coast. The family also includes Japanese Group 1 winner Danon Kingly.

Samurai Charmis the 33rd stakes winner for FIRST SAMURAI who has sired 11% stakes performers worldwide.
