It was a perfect start for MASTERY’s Divemaster on Sunday when the 2-year-old raced to a 1 ¾ length Maiden Special Weight victory at Churchill Downs.
Jockey Ricardo Santana Jr. took the colt multiple lengths off the leader in the 4 ½ furlong race to avoid the speedfest going on up from, sitting over 11 lengths off them early on. The Wayne Catalano trainee made his move in the stretch, racing five paths wide to fly past the leaders and draw away by over a length.
Divemaster was purchased by racing owner Jerry Caroom from Valkyre Stud and was bred by Aquitaine in Kentucky.
He is also out of the Grade 3-placed mare Aquitaine, a daughter of Grade 1-placed Rahy Dolly. Rahy Dolly is also the granddam of dual champion Nocentsinkentucky.
MASTERY’s first crop includes three stakes performers in three different countries.
