Grade 2-placed CLASSIC POINT became FLATTER’s newest stakes winner with a 6 1/4-length romp in the $100,000 Punkin Pie S. She broke best of the rest to set the pace from the start setting early fractions of :22 4/5 and :45 3/5 in this seven-furlong test on the main track. Lightly challenged midway on the turn, CLASSIC POINT began to pull away from there and lengthened her margin of victory through the stretch to the wire. The Joseph V. Shields Jr. homebred out of Discerning, by Langfuhr, was runner-up, beaten only a neck by eventual G1 SW Dance to Bristol, in last year’s Honorable Miss H.-G2 at Saratoga. With career earnings of $368,034, CLASSIC POINT now has six wins which include victories by eight lengths and 9 1/4 lengths going six furlongs at Belmont. She was previously trained by Allen Jerkens, but was making her second start for his son Jimmy Jerkens.
