Claiborne Stallions Well Represented at OBS April

Offspring by Claiborne stallions brought some impressive prices at the Ocala Breeders Sale Co.’s spring sale of 2-year-olds in training April 25-28.

Orb led the way when his son, Hip No. 28, fetched $685,000 to top the first session of the sale.

Consigned as Hip No. 28 by Randy Miles, agent, the colt was bought by Three Chimneys Bloodstock, agent. He breezed an eighth of a mile in :10 1/5 during the Under Tack session and is out of the Dynaformer mare Vowel, who is a half-sister to stakes winner Dream Nettie. The colt descends from an impressive Claiborne family that includes his third dam, G1 winner Preach.

Orb had two other colts fetch big numbers at OBS April. Hip 1048, out of the Silver Deputy mare Silver Reserve, brought $340,000 from Donna Clark; and Westbury Stables purchased Hip 1007, out the Archers Bay mare Schooners Bay, for $325,000.

First Samurai also had three offspring that brought six-figures, including Hip No. 581, a $540,000 colt out of the Indian Charlie mare Indian Bay. Kanayama Holdings Co. bought the colt, whose second and third dams are both stakes winners.

Flatter’s four six-figure horses at the sale included Hip No. 1068, a $360,000 filly out of the Smart Strike mare Smart Music, who was bought Larry Zap, agent for Joseph Ciaglia Jr.

Data Link and Trappe Shot also brought some good prices. Susan Moulton bought a daughter of Data Link for $100,000 at the sale (Hip 463); and Calumet Farm purchased a son of Trappe Shot for $105,000 (Hip 155).
