Canadian Turf (G3) Victor Second WAR FRONT Winner of Day

It was a two stakes winner day for WAR FRONT on Saturday when Fort Washington won the Canadian Turf Stakes (G3) in Florida and Liguria won the Buena Vista Stakes.

Making his second start of 2025, the 6-year-old ran his 1 1/16-mile turf race just like Liguria ran hers – at the back. Fort Washington didn’t sit nearly as far away from the leader as she had but was the back marker for much of the event.

Swung wide coming into the stretch, Fort Washington had much to do at that point, but he was up to the challenge. Closing strongly outside the rest of the field, Fort Washington was in a four-way finish for the win but came out ahead by a nose at the line.

Trained by Shug McGaughey for Magic Cap Stables, Fort Washington has finished on the board in 16 of 25 starts for $574,922 in earnings. Among his starts are 11 top three finishes in stakes.

The Joseph Allen and White Birch Farm bred is out of the Group 3 placed Azaelia, who also finished fourth in a Group 1. There are stakes performers under each of Fort Washington’s first five dams with stakes winner and Group 1 placed Asti also among the group.

Azaelia had a WAR FRONT filly last year bred by White Birch Farm.
