It was a gate-to-wire victory for the speedy Blitzkrieg (WAR FRONT) in the American S. (G3) at Santa Anita Sunday. Ridden by Victor Espinoza for conditioner Doug O’Neill, Blitzkrieg fired off quick fractions maintaining a comfortable lead throughout the race. He kicked clear at the top of the stretch and held off multiple Grade 1 winner Bowie’s Hero, the only challenger closing ground near the wire. Blitzkrieg completed the mile in 1:33.46.
Now his second graded stakes win for owners R3 Racing and Calara Farms, the 5-year-old son of WAR FRONT has earned nearly $400,000. Blitzkrieg was bred in Kentucky by Ramona Bass out of the graded stakes-winning Arch mare Bauble Queen.
