Sophie Germain’s career got off to a scintillating start when the juvenile daughter of Algorithms drew clear in the stretch to post a three-length victory in the fourth race at Aqueduct Dec. 3, earning TDN Rising Star honors in the process.
The gray filly was making her first start for trainer Chad Brown and owners Bradley Thoroughbreds, Tim and Anna Cambron and Joseph Hinkhouse. Going off at odds of 7-1, she raced toward the back of the pack for the first half-mile of the 1 1/16-mile turf contest. The filly made her move in the final turn and continued her advantage to the wire, completing the distance in 1:47.40 under jockey Joel Rosario. She earned $36,000 for her impressive maiden-breaking effort.
Moreau Bloodstock Int’l Inc. and Thomas Kutsukos bred Sophie Germain in Florida. Her second dam Yamuna is a half sister to G1-placed runner Eltish (Cox’s Ridge) and G3 winner Forest Gazelle (Green Forest), while her third dam Nimble Feet is a full sister to G1 winner Contredance.
Four black-type winners have represented first crop sire Algorithms, including 2016 Clarendon Stakes winner Vanish and multiple G3-placed Recruiting Ready. Algorithms will stand for $7,500 in 2017.
