2YO FIRST SAMURAI Juvenile Doubles Up On Stakes

It was a third straight victory for FIRST SAMURAI’s undefeated Jolly Samurai in the Clever Trevor Stakes on Friday night.

Already a stakes winner after his victory in the Kip Deville Stakes last out, the Danny Pish-trainee was happy to be one of the back markers for the first half of the seven-furlong dirt race. Happy to race more than seven lengths off the leader, Jolly Samurai crept closer around the turn and was sent six wide into the stretch.

Closing fast, he grabbed the lead inside the final furlong before steadily building his margin from there. Jolly Samurai won by half a length in the end to continue his perfect start.

Racing for Jake Brown, the juvenile was bred by David Cobb. He is now the earner of $110,196.

He’s just one of a handful of stakes performers under his second dam. That mare produced Grade 3 winner Change Up and two other stakes performers. Change Up followed in her dam’s footsteps with a stakes winner of her own in Pinch Hit.
