LEA Rallies to Just Miss in G1 Ricoh Woodbine Mile

Making his first start on turf in two years, LEA closed through the stretch to finish just a 1/2-length back in the runner-up spot of the $1 Million Ricoh Woodbine Mile S.-G1. The son of FIRST SAMURAI sat in mid pack in third for the first six furlongs. LEA began his closing kick as they turned for home, gained the lead near the wire but just got caught in the last few strides. Earlier in the year he won the Hal’s Hope S.-G3, finished runner-up in the Stephen Foster H.-G1 (beaten just a neck) and the Donn H.-G1 (beaten less than a length), and placed in the $10 Million Dubai World Cup-G1. In 2014, LEA won the Hal’s Hope S.-G3 and then set a new track record winning the Donn H.-G1 in which he ran a 114 Beyer Figure. Lifetime, the Claiborne Farm and Adele Dilschneider homebred has a record of seven wins, five seconds and three thirds in 18 starts, and earned $2,182,398.
