DEMARCHELIER’s (GB) Gainesway-owned San Pantaleo was a second-out winner for Bill Mott on Sunday with a 2 ½ length victory at Aqueduct.
Tackling six furlongs on the turf course, San Pantaleo didn’t have the easiest break out of the gate but quickly bounded to the lead. The filly controlled the pace from there with few issues and when John Velazquez gave her a little encouragement nearing the quarter pole, stepped up her game even more.
She had to dig in at the top of the stretch when another runner challenged for the lead but it was easy sailing from there as she galloped home to win by 2 ½ lengths.
The filly was a $230,000 OBS Spring Sale of 2-Year-Olds purchase earlier this year by her owner from Niall Brennan after going through the ring as a weanling for breeder Leverett Miller.
The filly is one of two winners out of Arch mare Treasured, who is a full sister to the stakes winning Desert Phantom and stakes placed Mercilla. The family also includes Grade 1 winners Blue Prize, Blue Stripe, and Knock.
San Pantaleo is the second winner in three days for DEMARCHELIER (GB), after Illustrator won by 11 lengths on Friday.
