Mare In-Foal to FLATTER On Top at Keeneland January

Last year FLATTER saw Search Results give him a Grade 1 win and a close second in the Kentucky Oaks (G1), Last week, she was the gift that just keeps giving when that filly’s dam was the highest priced broodmare of the Keeneland January Horses of All Ages sale while carrying his foal.

Sold for $600,000 to Peter Blum, the James B. Keogh-offered Candy Ride mare has visited FLATTER three times since 2017. The first mating resulted in Search Results, the second a 3-year-old colt named Search Engine, and the third being the foal she is carrying now.

“Mr. Blum loved the family, she is in foal to Flatter, and she is half to a good horse,” Blum’s agent Jonathan Harrison told Blood-Horse. “We’re delighted to have her, she was a very straightforward mare,” Harrison continued. “Not sure who we will send her to this year just yet, but being in foal to Flatter was a draw. She is an exciting addition to the group.”

Formerly owned by Machmer Hall, Co Cola herself was a Grade 3-placed mare, who is a half-sister to Grade 1-placed Kingdom Road and two other winners. Her winning dam Yong Musician is also a half-sister to Canadian champion Kimchi and two other stakes performers.

“I am a huge fan of Flatter,” Machmer Hall’s Carrie Brogden said. “He offers value. He throws soundness and heart, and she will throw the beauty.”

FIRST SAMURAI also saw a good result in the sale when his Taylor Made-consigned daughter On Deck sold for $190,000 to Giddy Up Stable. The 6-year-old mare has seven wins to her name in addition to being Grade 3-placed as one of three stakes performers under her first two dams.

Her six-time winning dam is a half-sister to both Grade 1 winner Spring Quality and Holiday Star with her own dam a half-sister to stakes winning Spring Season.
