Another 2-year-old RUNHAPPY found the winner’s circle last night. Miz Jameson made her debut a winning one at Lone Star park for trainer Jimmy Dodwell and owner Highlander Training Center, tallying RUNHAPPY‘s third juvenile winner in just 10 starters this year.
Eager early, jockey Iram Diego had Miz Jameson on a strong hold to try to settle in the second flight for the 7 1/2 furlong turf contest. But she proved running was all she wanted to do as she moved up five wide around the turn for home. Racing greenly down the stretch, Diego piloted her to meet lone challenge My Friend Amy, but once switching leads she forged clear to win by an easy length with lukewarm odds of 7-1.
Miz Jameson was bred by Farfellow Farms, out of the Henny Hughes mare Hennythelovepenny. Although the lone starter for the direct cross, Storm Cat-line mares are already proving to be a successful cross with RUNHAPPY, led by stakes winner Nicky the Vest and graded stakes-placed Joyful Cadence. A whopping 60% of stakes horses for the young sire are out of mares by sons of Storm Cat.
Miz Jameson is the first foal out of Hennythelovepenny, who also produced a CATHOLIC BOY colt this year. The family includes graded stakes winners Designs on Rome (G1W, Horse of the Year in Hong Kong with over $8 million in earnings), Twilight Royale (G2W), Rekindled Interest (G2W) among many more stakes horses under her first four dams.
Meanwhile, there was another 2-year-old first-time starter on the day for red hot sire RUNHAPPY at Woodbine. Fifth Anniversary showed a very promising runner-up finish on debut to a Casse-trainee, making a huge move around the turn to finish over a length clear of third.
In fact, RUNHAPPY‘s juveniles have won or placed in nine of 15 starts this year, a 60% in-the-money clip. The average win margin for RUNHAPPY 2-year-olds this year exceeds eight lengths. In DRF’s sire standings by Beyers for 2-year-olds, no sire has more 80+ Beyers posted among their juvenile crop.
RUNHAPPY‘s second crop is led by stakes winner Happy Soul. That Wesley Ward-trainee was last seen absolutely dominating the Astoria Stakes during Belmont (G1) week to score by nearly 12 lengths. Back on the worktab posting impressive breezes, she will be one to watch in upcoming 2-year-old stakes action.
