Juvenile FIRST SAMURAI Filly Sweet Souper Sweet Secures Stakes Win

Sweet Souper Sweet (FIRST SAMURAI) is falling right in line with others in her sire’s juvenile crop. The two-year-old daughter of FIRST SAMURAI put on a professional performance in just her third start, as she captured the Presque Isle Debutante Stakes by open lengths for trainer Michael J. Trombetta and owner/breeder Live Oak Plantation.

Sweet Souper Sweet, an impressive debut-winner at Woodbine, went into the six and one half furlong contest as the heavy favorite at 3-2 odds. The filly was mid-pack down the backstretch and started gaining ground with light asking from jockey Scott Spieth around the far turn. With a strong rally down the stretch, the daughter of FIRST SAMURAI passed three rivals in a matter of strides, crossing the wire over two lengths to the good in a final time of 1:16.37.

Bred in Florida by Live Oak Stud, Sweet Souper Sweet is out the Candy Ride (ARG) mare, Our Candy Striper. Her dam is half to 4-time stakes winner and multiple graded stakes-placed More Than Regal, from the immediate family of Horse of the Year and hall of fame inductee Invasor (ARG).

Now with two new juvenile stakes winners in the matter of a day, FIRST SAMURAI ranks 3rd amongst Kentucky sires (with 12 or more starters) –behind Tapit and Uncle Mo – by percentage of juvenile stakes winners this year!
