MASTERY Filly Tops First-Crop Sires at Keeneland January

A MASTERY filly caught eyes this year at the Keeneland January sale. Buyer and agent Andre Lynch went to $365,000 to secure this filly from his first crop. Consigned by Royal Oak Farm, Hip 623 is out of the Belong to Me mare, Dowry. This makes the MASTERY filly a half-sister to great distaffers such as Grade 1 winner and multiple Grade 1-placed Nereid, who has already produced a graded stakes winner, as well as the Grade 1-placed stakes winner Sea Queen.

As the highest ‘short’ yearling sold amongst first-crop sires at Keeneland January, MASTERY stood out against his highly anticipated peers, including champions Gun Runner, Arrogate and Classic Empire.

By successful sire Candy Ride (ARG), MASTERY was undefeated on the track, with wins in the Cash Call Futurity (G1), San Felipe Stakes (G2), and Bob Hope Stakes (G3). Mastery stands at Claiborne Farm for $25,000.
