The first reported foal by Grade 1 winner Annapolis has been born at Claiborne, the farm announced Jan. 27.
The foal is a healthy colt out of the Grade 1-placed mare Home Cooking, who was purchased by Ramona Bass specifically for Annapolis for $500,000 at the 2024 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Winter Mixed sale. This is the first foal out of the five-year-old Honor Code mare, whose race record included a runner-up finish in the Del Mar Debutante S. (G1) for trainer Bob Baffert.
“The colt was born early this morning and we’re very excited about him,” said Claiborne farm manager Bradley Purcell. “It was a nice easy delivery for the first time mother, she’s doing great and the foal is good size with correct bone, has good leg under him, very attractive, and has a lot of characteristics of his sire. We’re very happy for Ramona and Perry.”
Annapolis has been well received upon his retirement to Claiborne Farm, covering 149 mares his first season. The talented son of War Front earned over $1.5 million on the track, including a stakes record-setting victory in the Coolmore Turf Mile (G1) at Keeneland. A graded stakes winner at ages two and three, Annapolis also earned the highest Beyer Speed Figure of any turf juvenile in 2021. He hails from an incredible dirt family that includes winners of the Grade 1 Florida Derby, Ashland, Alabama, and Travers Stakes.
