It was a Saratoga Maiden Special Weight winner for WAR OF WILL on Thursday when She’s Got Will won on debut for Gary Barber.
The filly started her career going 1 1/16 miles on the turf and was never far from the lead. With a quarter mile left to go, she was urged on by Dylan Davis and started her march toward the lead. Her serious challenge began with a furlong left to run and she took complete command inside the final sixteenth.
The filly inched away from there to win by a length in the end.
She’s Got Will was a $160,000 Keeneland September Yearling purchase out of the multiple stakes winning Ruffenuff. That mare is a half-sister to another multiple stakes winner in Wendell Fong.
Each of Ruffenuff’s first four dams have produced at least one stakes winner with three of She’s Got Will’s first four dams winning at least one stakes.
WAR OF WILL’s six winners puts him fifth among all freshmen with his runners led by two stakes horses – good enough for the second most stakes performers of any freshman.
