It was another winner for WAR OF WILL on Saturday when Flip Flops won an Ellis Park Maiden Special Weight in her third start.
The Mark Casse trainee had to endure trouble from another runner early in the one-mile turf race and went into the first turn wide. Jockey Luan Machado decided that was the best route for the maiden and kept her wide throughout, so she came into the stretch five wide.
As they approached the final furlong, she swept past the leaders before winning by 1 ¾ lengths.
It’s the second placing in three starts for the filly, who races for Gary Barber. She was bred by Hunter Valley Farm and Tony Hegarty out of the Munnnings mare Sandal.
That mare is a three-quarter sister to multiple Grade 2 winner Qurbaan and Grade 3-placed Qareeb.
WAR OF WILL is the sire of a generation leading two stakes performers this year and has seen eight of his runners finish in the top three.
