It was a successful second book at Keeneland September for WAR FRONT and his classic winning son WAR OF WILL with WAR FRONT’s offerings led by a $425,000 filly.
Offered by Gainesway, D.J. Stable went to $425,000 to secure the filly out of the winning Tapit mare Marlinspike. That mare is out of champion Surfside, whose foals include Grade 3 winning colt Irish Surf and stakes-placed Shark.
Two of Surfside’s daughters are successful producers as well with daughter High Surf the dam of Group 3 winner and Group 1-placed High Celebrity and Zulall the dam of Group 1 winner Zillzaal. The stakes class continues throughout the page with the filly’s third dam the great mare Flanders.
Marlinspike returned to WAR FRONT after this filly was born and had another filly this year.
WAR FRONT’s other two sold brought $350,000 and $300,000.
WAR OF WILL’S five offerings continued where his Book 1 yearlings left off with Jebel Ali Stables and Michael Costa going to $375,000 for a colt by the stallion.
Consigned by Taylor Made Sales, the colt is the seventh out of the Grade 3-placed La Song and was bred by Southern Comfort Farm. La Song has produced three winners from three to race with one of her unraced daughters producing the stakes placed Munny Penny.
All three dams on this page earned blacktype on the track with his second dam placing in a stakes and not only producing a stakes performer but also the dam of stakes winner Dowagiac Chief. The colt’s third dam is the Grade 3 winner You’renotlistening, who produced multiple stakes winner Your Bluffing among her three stakes performers.
You’renotlistening’s daughters are also strong producers with one daughter producing Grade 1 winner Currency Swap and another producing Grade 3 winner Chanteline.
WAR OF WILL also had a $200,000 colt purchased by Gary Barber and Pantofel Stables.
Offered by Vinery, the colt was offered by Vinery Sales on behalf of Milestone Farm out of the winning Curlin mare Curls In Place. Curls In Place has produced three stakes performers from three to race, led by Grade 3 winner Big Invasion. That group also includes the stakes placed duo of We Miss Sudie and Unitedandresolute.
This is a strong family with the colt a grandson of multiple stakes winner Pola’s Place, who is a half-sister to multiple stakes winner Going Wild and to the dam of multiple stakes winner Valley of Mo’ara.
Through two books at Keeneland, WAR OF WILL has seen all seven of his first crop offerings sell for an average of $187,143. In all, he has 59 cataloged in this year’s Keeneland September Yearling Sale.
