Trappe Shot’s son Untrapped continued working toward the road to the Kentucky Derby when he spun five wide into the stretch and finished a game second behind Girvin in the G2 Risen Star Stakes at Fair Grounds Feb. 25.
Trained by Steve Asmussen, the bay colt is owned by Michael Langford, who bought him for $125,000 at the 2016 Ocala Breeders’ Sale Co.’s April 2-year-old sale.
Untrapped launched his sophomore campaign with another respectable runner-up effort in Fair Grounds’ G3 Lecomte Stakes. He has now won or placed in all of his four starts, for career earnings of $166,800. As of Feb. 27, Untrapped ranked third on the Kentucky Derby leaderboard with 24 points.
Bred by Indian Creek and Jonathan Sheppard, he is out of the Giant’s Causeway mare Exit Three. Untrapped is one of three 2017 stakes horses for Trappe Shot, who stands for $7,500 at Claiborne.
