Stakes Horses at Woodbine and Pimlico on Saturday

Multiple stakes winner SKYLANDER GIRL placed in her second Graded stakes of the year finishing runner-up in the Whimsical S.-G3 on the Woodbine Polytrack. The 4-year-old daughter of STROLL broke on top but elected to stalk the pacesetter in second in this six-furlong sprint. SKYLANDER GIRL moved up to challenge the frontrunner at the top of the lane, took the lead in mid-stretch but was caught close to the wire losing only by a length. The final time was only a second off the track record.  SKYLANDER GIRL also finished runner-up on Gulfstream’s turf in the 1 1/16-mile Marshua’s River S.-G3 in January. It was the ninth time she has won or placed in stakes in her career and now has earnings of $467,707.

And at Pimlico, SPECIAL ENVOY became STROLL’s newest stakes horse placing in the $100,000 Henry S. Clark S. The 4-year-old raced in a stalking position early on in the one mile turf event. He moved up between horses in mid-stretch and battled to the wire missing the win by only two lengths. SPECIAL ENVOY was coming off a course record performance win in a 1 1/8-mile turf allowance at Tampa Bay Downs. He has won or placed in seven of eight lifetime starts, including three victories.
