MASTERY’S Masterful Mistress Earns Determined Victory

MASTERY daughter Masterful Mistress gave her sire his 11th winner on Friday with a determined victory at Hawthorne.

The six furlong race saw her engage in a duel early on and keep the pressure on her companion as they raced neck and neck own the backstretch. There was nothing between them racing into the turn and it stayed that way until the final furlong when Masterful Mistress started to pull away.

The juvenile left that one in the dust but had a rapidly closing rival coming at her as they neared the wire. In the end, Masterful Mistress earned the win by three quarters of a length for John and Patrick Moroney.

Purchased by her racing owners as a yearling and put in training with Steve Manley, Masterful Mistress is the first foal out of the stakes winning Discreet Senorita. That nine-time winner is one of six winners from six to race out of Senorita Louisa, who herself is a half-sister to two stakes performers.

An undefeated Grade 1 winner, MASTERY stands for $10,000 this year and saw mares carrying foals from his fourth crop sell for up to $340,000 in 2021.
