KOBE’S BACK spotted the field 13 lengths after the first quarter mile but made an impressive rally to place in the six-furlong Bing Crosby S.-G1 at Del Mar, beaten less than three lengths. The 4-year-old colt by FLATTER broke badly to the inside leaving post position one and it took Gary Stevens a while to get him into the race. KOBE’S BACK was still more than eight lengths off the lead after five furlongs but continued a relentless rally through the stretch to get up for third. This year KOBE’S BACK won Keeneland’s Grade 3 Commonwealth S. in his second start after finishing runner-up in the San Carlos S.-G2 at Santa Anita in his seasonal debut. Last year at three he won the San Vicente S.-G2 by 5 1/4 lengths.
