After a troubled beginning, KOBE’S BACK came from far back to nearly take down the $300,000 Bay Shore S.-G3 at Aqueduct. After striking the side of the starting gate at the break, the 3-year-old colt by FLATTER was dead last in the early going. He swung far to the outside at the top of the stretch and put in a gallant effort to only finish a nose and a 1/2-length back of the win. In his 2-year-old debut, KOBE’S BACK won Hollywood Park’s Willard L. Proctor S., then finished runner-up in the Grade 3 Hollywood Prevue S. to eventual Champion Shared Belief in his second start after a five-month lay-off. In his first start of 2014, he won the G2 San Vicente S. by 5 1/4 lengths.
