Metropolitan Handicap (G1) winner SILVER STATE sees his first in-foal mares offered in coming weeks at the Kentucky November breeding stock sales with one on offer at Fasig-Tipton November and 18 cataloged at the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale.
That Fasig-Tipton November offering is the Grade 1 producing Special Treat, coming into the ring as Hip 303 from Paramount Sales.
A granddaughter of multiple graded stakes winner and Grade 1 producer Daydreaming, Special Treat proved her own abilities as a broodmare over the summer when Chocolate Gelato won the Frizette (G1). That Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) contending filly is the third foal out of the winning Candy Ride mare, who also has a yearling filly by Palace Malice and weanling filly by Outwork to come.
In addition to Daydreaming, Special Treat’s family has proven the young mare is set to be a top producer. Her third dam is the Grade 3 winner Get Lucky, who is the granddam of Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Super Saver and third dam of Grade 1 winner Callback among others. Get Lucky is also a full sister to champion Rhythm and successful sire Not For Love.
The first mare in foal to SILVER STATE at the Keeneland November Breeding Stock sale is consigned by Claiborne as Hip 376.

Carrying her first foal on a March 5 cover, MASTERY 3-year-old Gypsy Glance is a half-sister to dual Grade 1 winner and Grade 2 producer Contested, WAR FRONT’s multiple stakes winning sire son Mosler and that one’s Group 2-placed Air Vice Marshal. Their dam Gold Vault is also a half-sister to dual Grade 1 winner Pomeroy and two other stakes performers.
Gypsy Glance’s siblings have given her multiple updates in recent months with her half-brother Bullion winning by 3 ¾ lengths on October 24 and her juvenile full brother placing at Churchill Downs on September 22.
Claiborne Farm offers Hip 1130, the BLAME daughter Firsthand Report. A multiple stakes winner herself, Firsthand Report’s second foal is the stakes winning RUNHAPPY filly Somebody’s Problem and her third – an Omaha Beach colt – sold for $95,000 as a yearling earlier this year.
Firsthand Report is out of the stakes-placed Kinsey, who is a full sister to Grade 3 winner Electrify and half-sister to Grade 3 winner and Grade 1-placed Rothko in addition to stakes winner and stakes producer Cream Only. In all, three of Kinsey’s half-sisters have produced stakes performers as well.
The stakes winning Starless Night is selling as Hip 1346 as part of the Claiborne Farm draft. The dam of two winners from two to race, as a racemare Starless Night earned nearly $180,000 and herself is out of a multiple stakes winner Victory Romance. Three of Starless Night’s four dams have produced stakes winners with stakes producing daughters under their names as well.
Starless Night also has a yearling BLAME filly and foaled a Justify filly this year.
A multiple stakes winning mare, Hip 1442 is carrying her first foal by SILVER STATE. Offered by Paramount Sales, Bermuda Star won seven races and finished in the top three 10 other times in her 26 starts with eight top three finishes in stakes races. Bermuda Star is also a half-sister to stakes placed Cape Town Bride and out of the stakes placed Bermuda Bride with 19 stakes performers under her three dams on the page.
A proven producer, Hip 1588 consigned by Taylor Made Sales is multiple winner Knox County Zip. A half-sister to Grade 3 winner and multiple Grade 1-placed Thank You Marylou, Knox County Zip is the dam of stakes winner Trickle In from her first foal with the mare also producing three-time winning BLAME gelding I’m Blaming You from her two runners. Knox County Zip is out of stakes winner Menifeeque, who herself is out of stakes winner Quick Rhythm.
Knox County Zip is a fourth-generation stakes producer with her fifth dam foaling multiple stakes producing daughters as well.
Bedouin Bloodstock sends Calamity Jane through the ring as Hip 2280, the mare carrying a SILVER STATE foal on a March 23 cover.
Calamity Jane is a stakes winning Cowboy Cal mare, who also placed in two other stakes races. The mare is carrying her second foal after foaling an Honor A. P. colt this year. Calamity Jane’s granddam is a half-sister to champion Groovy and herself produced a stakes winners and two other stakes performers. That stakes winner is also the dam of champion and multiple Group 1 winner Kononkop and multiple Group 2 winner and Group 1-placed Koller.
Stormy Atlantic mare Last Play is offered as Hip 2429 from Brookdale Sales, a half-sister to multiple Grade 1 winner Marsh Side, carrying a SILVER STATE foal on an April 1 cover.
The mare is a daughter of Grade 2 winner Colonial Play, who is also the granddam of stakes placed Attendant in addition to the dam of Marsh Side. Colonial Play herself is a full sister to champion Pleasant Stage and multiple Grade 3 winner Stage Colony in addition to being a half-sister to two stakes performers.
The mare’s first foal is a juvenile Tonalist filly named Miss Soly and her second is a yearling Catalina Cruiser colt. Last Play also foaled a Hard Spun colt this year.
The Fasig-Tipton November Sale takes place on November 6 with the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale starting on November 7 and ending on November 16.
