It was another international stakes winner for BLAME on Saturday when Sibayan won the Listed Derby Du Midi in France.
Looking to return to the winner’s circle after his winning streak was broken last out, he cut back to 1 3/16 to get the job done in this event. The Aga Khan homebred broke a step slow, but that didn’t keep him from going straight to the lead and opening just over a length on the other runners.
Another runner started adding a little pressure around the turn but didn’t last long as Sibayan spurted away. That was the only time he faced anything serious with the colt winning by three lengths in the end.
Trained by Jean-Claude Rouget, Sibayan has won five of his seven starts and has only finished worse than second once in his career.
Sibayan is out of the stakes winning Sirrin, who has two wins from two foals. She hails from the family of multiple Group 1 winner Sinndar, with stakes winners under each of Sibyan’s four dams listed on his page.
This is the second stakes winner in the last two weeks for BLAME, who also saw a juvenile sell for $400,000 at the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic 2-Year-Olds In Training Sale this week.
