BLAME Daughter Brings $550,000 at Keeneland January

The popularity of BLAME daughters was on full display at the Keeneland January Horses of All Ages sale this week when Closing Statement sold for $550,000.

The fourth most expensive broodmare of the sale, she was purchased by Greenwell Thoroughbreds from Columbiana Farm. A winner on the track, Closing Statement is the dam of War Of Will’s Grade 3 winner Final Accord from her four foals of racing age with two of the others winning as well.

Closing Statement is out of the stakes winner and Grade 2-placed Consequence, who has seen three of her daughters produce stakes performers. That group includes Closing Statement’s BLAME full sister Complicated. Complicated’s four stakes winners include the Grade 1 winning duo And One More Time and Simply In Front and stakes winner Churchtown with all three by WAR FRONT sons.

Simply In Front sold for $2 million at the sale to Greenwell to be the second most expensive horse of the sale and most expensive broodmare prospect.

A Virginia-bred yearling by BLAME also brought $170,000 at the sale when Hoosier Stable purchased her from Warrendale Sales as agent for Lazy Lane Farm. She is the second foal out of a half-sister to six-time winner My Boss Lady and five-time winner Sing Along Suzy.

BLAME has had a strong start to the year with his daughter Explora making easy work of the Santa Ynez on Saturday as well.
