Claiborne Stallions Shine during the Saratoga Sale

Progeny by Claiborne stallions received a great deal of interest during the highly respected Fasig-Tipton Saratoga selected yearling sale. Leading the way were a $1 million colt by Orb, who was the overall co-sale topper, and a colt by War Front, who fetched the next highest price of the two-day auction.

Freshman sire Orb proved popular both days of the sale, but during the second session, he really shined, as Hip 186 sold to Kerri Radcliffe Bloodstock for $1 million. That impressive sum topped the day and co-topped the sale. Consigned by Gainesway, the chestnut colt is the first foal out of graded stakes winner Flashy American.

Just five hips earlier, an Orb filly out of Fashion Cat brought $750,000 from Solis/Litt. Consigned by Four Star Sales, the filly is a half-sister to graded stakes winner Corfu, who is by Orb’s sire, Malibu Moon.

All 10 Orb yearlings on offer sold, and they averaged $406,500, or more than 16 times his 2017 stud fee of $25,000.

War Front also continued to be popular, as his highest selling yearling brought $995,000 from Godolphin. The colt, who was consigned by Gainesway, is out of Lerici, making him a full brother to Grade 1 winner Avenge.

Additionally, Flatter and First Samurai were also well-represented. The most expensive Flatter offering was a filly out of Pavati who went for $350,000, which is 10 times Flatter’s stud fee. Meanwhile, a colt by First Samurai sold for $400,000, which is almost 27 times his stud fee.
