FIRST SAMURAI’s Bushido Catches Eye in Debut

FIRST SAMURAI’s debuting juvenile Bushido was much the best at Woodbine on Sunday when the colt romped to a 5 ¼ length victory at Woodbine.

Bushido took the lead immediately by a few lengths in the five furlong turf race before Antonio Gallardo rated him to stay just a length in front of the field early on. Increasing his lead again around the turn, he was never asked for his best but ran away from the field anyway and crossed the line 5 ¼ lengths in front.

Trained by Darwin Banach for Suzi Shoemaker, the Kentucky-bred is from the Lantern Hill Farm breeding program.

He is the first foal out of the stakes-placed Burma Road, one of four stakes performers for Shawgatny alongside Grade 3 winner Motor City, multiple stakes winner and graded stakes placed Satulagi, and stakes winner Winter Book. Burma is also a half-sister to the dam of Grade 3 winner Rich Mommy, who is also the granddam of multiple stakes winner Rowdy Yates.

FIRST SAMURAI is having another successful year on the track with his 86 winners including three stakes winners and eight stakes performers.
