Making his first start since March, RUNHAPPY’s Happy Medium was ready to go at Belmont Park on Thursday with a 9 ¼ length Maiden Special Weight romp.
Trained by Michelle Nevin for Jay Em Ess Stables, Happy Medium shot out of the gate in the six furlong dirt race and immediately entered a duel. By the time they had reached the turn, that rival was cooked but Manny Franco looked more than confident on his gelding. Happy Medium was well in hand with more than a length on the field in mid-turn and it was only about to get better from there.
Happy Medium was given a few taps to stay focused in the final furlong before Franco wrapped up on him with none of the other runners looking like they’d even cut into his 9 ¼ length lead in the end.
Bred by Colts Neck Stables, Happy Medium was a $300,000 Keeneland September purchase by his racing owner from the Ashview Farm consignment.
Happy Medium is a half-brother to multiple graded stakes winner Mendip and stakes winner Dig Deep among his three stakes performing siblings. The gelding’s granddam is the Grade 1 winning Chaposa Springs, who is also the granddam of Peruvian champion Karmi. Chaposa Springs is one of two Grade 1 winners for her own dual Grade 1-winning dam La Choposa alongside You And I.
La Choposa has proven to be an influential broodmare with her descendants including champion Palestino, Group 2 winner Mayorazgo, and Grade 2-placed Tenfold among many others.
