War Front Starts Year Strong With $900,000 In-Foal Mare

WAR FRONT kicked off another year on the right note when a mare carrying his foal sold for $900,000 to Hill ‘n’ Dale at Xalapa on Tuesday as third most expensive offering of the Keeneland January Sale.

Offered by Sam-Son Farm as part of their dispersal, Grade 2 winner Deceptive Vision isn’t a stranger to WAR FRONT – also having a filly by the super sire last year.

A daughter of Canadian champion and top broodmare Eye of the Sphynx, the 11-year-old mare hails from one of the top Sam-Son families as a full sister to A.P. Indy’s Canadian champion and Queen’s Plate winner Eye of the Leopard and stakes winner Hotep. Eye of the Sphynx also produced Deceptive Vision’s three-quarter stakes winning sister Desert Isle and the dam of Canadian champion Desert Ride from her seven winners from seven to race.

The foal Deceptive Vision is carrying is bred on the same cross as five WAR FRONT stakes winners, including Grade 2 winner On Leave and Grade 3 winner Journey Home.

This is the third straight January sale WAR FRONT has been either the sire or covering sire of one of the top three most expensive horses. His daughter Confidently was the second most expensive last year and A Star Is Born was the second highest price in 2019 while carrying his foal.

The stallion also had the most expensive yearling sold at the 2016 January Sale while a mare in foal to him and her WAR FRONT daughter were the top two priced horses at the 2015 January Sale. The third highest priced horse at the 2015 sale was in foal to WAR FRONT’s stablemate BLAME.
