WAR FRONT Son Named Champion Freshman Sire

Already an emerging sire-of-sires, WAR FRONT added another feather in his cap last week when his champion racehorse son U S Navy Flag was named Champion First Season Sire in New Zealand.

The stallion led the way in the standings for the past four months by earnings before securing the title with $373,975 in earnings.

His seven winners were two better than the runner up with the next closest having four less winners. U S Navy Flag also finished first among all New Zealand sires in the 2-year-old sire standings by winners and second by earnings.

“The winners have come at a good rate, and he’s also had a very good number of impressive trial winners who haven’t yet raced,” The Oaks Stud’s general manager Rick Williams told Racing Post. “That’s always very encouraging as well. A few of those have gone to Hong Kong now, but if they do well up there, that can only be a good thing for us, too, in the long run. We couldn’t have asked for much more.”

U S Navy Flag is among the WAR FRONT sons to sire a combined 181 stakes winners with 65 winning at the graded stakes level and 384 siring stakes performers. Among those are 12 Grade 1 winners sired by four different WAR FRONT sons. In all, 17 different WAR FRONT sons have sired at least one graded stakes winner with his sons striking at a 60% winners to runners rate.

WAR FRONT is joined on the Claiborne roster by his classic winning, dual-surface Grade 1 winner WAR OF WILL. WAR OF WILL’s first crop of yearlings are selling now with the group led by a $650,000 colt at this week’s Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Sale.
